The Cisco 2800 Series comprises four new platforms (refer to Figure 1): the Cisco 2801, the Cisco 2811, the Cisco 2821, and the Cisco 2851. The Cisco 2800 Series provides significant additional value compared to prior generations of Cisco routers at similar price points by offering up to a fivefold performance improvement, up to a tenfold increase in security and voice performance, new embedded service options, and dramatically increased slot performance and density while maintaining support for most of the more than 90 existing modules that are available today for the Cisco 1700, Cisco 2600, and Cisco 3700 Series. The Cisco 2800 Series features the ability to deliver multiple high-quality simultaneous services at wire speed up to multiple T1/E1/xDSL connections. The routers offer embedded encryption acceleration and on the motherboard voice digital-signal-processor (DSP) slots; intrusion prevention system (IPS) and firewall functions; optional integrated call processing and voice mail support; high-density interfaces for a wide range of connectivity requirements; and sufficient performance and slot density for future network expansion requirements and advanced applications. |

Provides two serial ports using the “smart serial” connector.
- Asynchronous support with a maximum speed (per port) of 115.2 Kbps, minimum 600 bps. If you need to run at speeds lower than 600 bps, use the AUX port instead.
- Synchronous support with a maximum speed of 2.048 Mbps per port.
- Supports one port at 8 Mbps when used in NM-1FE1R2W, NM-1FE2W, NM-2FE2W, or NM-2W, or Cisco 2600 chassis WIC slots. All other WIC ports on that network module or Cisco 2600 chassis must not be used.
- Supports two ports at 4 Mbps each when used in NM-1FE1R2W, NM-1FE2W, NM-2FE2W, or NM-2W, or Cisco 2600 chassis WIC slots. All other WIC ports on that network module or Cisco 2600 chassis must not be used.
- Supports 8 Mbps on all ports simultaneously on 2691, 3725, and 3745. No restrictions. Maximum six ports at 8 Mbps each.

The Cisco 1600 Series is not capable of supporting the WIC-2T due to lack of Serial Communications Controllers.
The NM-1E2W, NM-1E1R2W, and NM-2E2W Network Modules do not have enough performance power to support the WIC-2T due to hardware limitations.
WIC-2A/S
The WIC-2A/S provides two serial ports using the Smart Serial connector. The only difference between the WIC-2A/S and the WIC-2T is the maximum supported sync speed.
- Aysnchronous support with a maximum speed of 115.2 Kbps, and a minimum of 600 bps. If you need to run at speeds lower than 600 bps, use the AUX port instead.
- Synchronous support with a maximum speed of 128 Kbps.

Multiflex trunk dedicated echo cancellation modules (EC-MFT-32, EC-MFT-64)
Cisco Multiflex Trunk Dedicated Echo Cancellation (MFT ECAN) Modules are dedicated resources for the Cisco Enhanced ITU-T G.168 ECAN feature, providing robust echo cancellation performance for demanding network environments. The modules are daughter cards that attach to Cisco Second-generation Multiflex Trunk Voice/WAN Interface Cards (MFT VWIC2 cards). The dedicated ECAN modules are available in 32- and 64-channel configurations, which match the requirements of the 1- and 2-port T1/E1 MFT VWIC2s, respectively.

** It is possible to install a Cisco 32-Channel MFT Dedicated ECAN Module on a 2-port MFT VWIC2. However, not all voice channels will be able to concurrently use the echo cancellation feature.
*** It is possible to install a Cisco 64-Channel MFT Dedicated ECAN Module on a 1-port MFT VWIC2. However, the extra echo cancellation channels will not be used. The only ports on the MFT VWIC2 that can use the module resources are the ports directly attached to the module.

Note:
1. This part number (HWIC-4ESW-POE / HWIC-D-9ESW-POE) should be ordered only if you require in-line power.
You must also order the matching internal power unit to support in-line power on a Cisco 2800 or Cisco 3800 router.
2. The HWIC-D-9ESW card provides inline power through only 8 of its ports, ports 0 through 7. The ninth port (port 8) is intended to be a stacking port, and as such, does not support inline power.
3. The inline power daughter cards are NOT interchangeable between the 4-port and the (8+1)-port HWICs.
4. There is no option to unstack two HWIC switches. When two HWIC switches are in the same chassis,
they can operate only in stacked mode. If the user configures the switches to operate unstacked, the switches will not operate correctly. All combinations of HWIC switches may be stacked: two HWIC-D-9ESWs, an
HWIC-D-9ESW with an HWIC-4ESW, or two HWIC-4ESWs.
